The Rainforest Project at the YWCA of San Diego
Art and creative activities have the ability to improve everyone's quality of life. There are times however, during personal crisis or family trauma that art becomes the essential lifeline that gives us hope and lifts us back to a place of dignity and self-worth.
There is no longer any question within the healthcare community that the arts can positively affect medical outcomes. The Rainforest Project at the YWCA believes that during times of personal challenge, the arts play a dramatic role in emotional healing.
With a generous grant from the Avon Foundation, The Rainforest Project at the YWCA has completed the pilot program to create a three-piece mosaic mural that will travel throughout the US. Made from shattered tiles, this will be a testimonial to the skill and creativity of the artisans and their struggle to create a better life, more meaningful and fulfilling than ever.
The nature-based art curriculum for the Rainforest Project at the YWCA will act as a template for other regions of the country.
